The Power of Visualisation: What does the future look like to you?
Earlier this year I hosted my first creative workshop to a corporate team. This was a big deal for me - my first opportunity to bring my authentic self to work. My first chance to tell my story on the discovery of my greatest resource to date - my mind.
The session looked at the concept of visualisation and the power within investing time to look inward, to see and to feel what you would like something to be like. When you think about the future, what does it look like to you? If it’s from a personal perspective, what type of person have you become? What’s different in your environment? From a professional perspective, what areas do you excel in? What position do you hold? What impact are you driving?
There’s power within talking about these things. But there’s even greater power within seeing and feeling them. When you visualise your highest self, what do you look like? How are you spending your time? What values do you uphold? Creating a picture in your mind and in turn generating feelings around this vision is a fundamental tool in achieving success in your life.
For me, this hasn’t just been learnt, it’s been practised. I’m currently living my life in the exact way I pictured it for over 4 years. My life used to look a lot different to how it does today. And during times where finances were low, mental health was deteriorating and my family were disapproving of the changes I set out for myself, the only tool I could rely on was my mind. I spent my days closing my eyes, visualising my future set up. I would visualise my dream day in the life and how the healthiest and happiest version of myself would look.
Creating a vision board during this process helps a lot, as it provides clarity and a consistent reference point as to what images you should be reinforcing in your mind. It brings it into your reality and wires your brain accordingly. Anyway, I could spend hours getting into the technicalities behind it all but for now join me in thinking about how you can apply this method to drive success in different areas of your life.
